Clubhouse is a social audio app launched about a year ago. It’s an iOS app only and is currently tipped to be valued at $1 billion. In a blog post, the company announced that it will now allow users to send money to their favorite speakers. The blog also hints at more features to roll out in the near future.
It seems like, instead of introducing advertisements on the app, Clubhouse wants to empower content creators directly.
Creators will need to enable the payment acceptance feature on their profile in order for users to send them money. This new feature seems to follow the footprints of YouTube and Facebook for acknowledging content creators. On YouTube, viewers can appreciate content creators by sending them “super chat” and on Facebook “stars”.

Currently, Clubhouse is not taking any percentage from the money that is sent to the creator. 100% of the payment will go directly to the creator. Yes, the sender will be charged a small card processing fee though to facilitate a payment gateway called Stripe.
Stripe CEO Patrick Collison also tweeted after the blog post went live to acknowledge the partnership with Clubhouse.

The new content appreciation feature will encourage and support emerging creators on the platform. Not only it will encourage existing creators, but it will also orchestrate ways for new content creators to join the app. The influx of new users will fuel the popularity of the app and increase its growth.
